My Get Up

Hello My Nation of Cre8tive Hijabis!

So sorry I may have been lacking in updates been busy. So tomorrow is my first day back to work, I am excited yet I am nervous. But anyhow! I want to share with you the outfit me and my friend wore during a day out in the city hope you like it and will inspire you.

Me in a short floral dress with black pants and My friend in her short denim dress with jeans!
Tell me if you like our get up and if it is good enough for a muslimah. Because my outfit my dad don't like it and he said it is not appropriate I wonder why?

I wonder why your dad thinks it's not appropriate? You're perfectly covered! I think the flowers on your dress are lovely.

My guess is that your dad is the type who subscribes to the view that when you are indoors it is one thing, it suffices to have everything except face and hands covered, but when you are outside, you need to wear an extra covering - this is probably what he means when he uses the word 'jilbab'.

In my country, Muslim women (who are admittedly few and far between) normally do wear hijab, but do not use the 'extra jilbab', rather just contenting themselves with covering all but face and hands with loose clothing.

Well caraboska. My dad knows nothing about extra jilbab and neither do I. I think he would love me to dress more formally cause he suggested me to wear my traditional malay baju kurung.

tell you the truth he hates my taste in clothes and shoes. Cause I love those with nice graphics and cartoon like. He hates them :)

Oh, is that what it is! I thought he had a problem with the dresses being short - not down to the ankle - or something like that. It seems he wants you to look more like a traditional 'woman of dignity', or something to that effect. And you no doubt want to look like a woman of dignity too, or you wouldn't be wearing hijab, but you and he have different ideas of what that means in practice...

That 'extra jilbab', I read about on the blog of someone who contributes comments to thehijablog, she gave verses from the Qur'an and hadith to support the view that jilbab is supposed to be an outer garment worn *over something else*, and that women have to wear it when they go outdoors. Evidently, there are different opinions about what constitutes jilbab, or everyone would be doing that...
